Cross-stitch by cross-stitch comes together in Nigg's embroidered oeuvre, forming the dynamic, square basic structure of his compositions. In Alighiero Boetti's Mettere al mondo il mondo (Bringing the World into the World) stroke by stroke is lined up continuously until the surface is covered with an undulating, almost cosmic dark blue, with the title written star-like in white commas. Max Cole brings constant presence into the world with a repetition of hand-drawn strokes. Row upon row of triangles lines up in Matti Braun's Lota. In Hinduism, to which this piece makes reference, the triangle is regarded as a symbol of life-giving natural force. White and black squares are the ornament in the abstract buffalo mask of the West African Nafana.
On show are works of Alighiero Boetti, Matti Braun, Max Cole, Donald Judd, Kimsooja, Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Julian Opie, Karl Heinz Ströhle and of the Dogon and Nafana peoples.
