Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and the Hilti Art Foundation will be closed for maintenance for a few weeks starting on 16 September 2021.

The museum's big reopening is set to take place on 11 November 2021 – the Kunstmuseum's 21st "birthday" – with three new exhibitions.

The purpose of the temporary closure is to invest in sustainable lighting equipment: the Kunstmuseum's luminous ceiling will be upgraded from fluorescent tubes (FL tubes) to LED and brought up to an energy-saving standard that has already been implemented in all other rooms. A total of 1250 tubes need to be replaced. We will also be modernising the light control system in order to continue to meet the high standards for exhibiting art. The funding for this upgrade was discussed and approved by parliament in November 2020. The Office for Construction and Infrastructure is in charge of the project and scheduling works.

The Café im Kunstmuseum will be able to stay open throughout. The museum management will also continue to work and can be contacted as usual. In addition to administrative and communicative tasks, work on publications, lending works from the collection, etc., we will also be taking down the current exhibition and setting up the new shows during the closure:

Rivane Neuenschwander. knife does not cut fire

Body – Gesture – Space. Works from the Hilti Art Foundation

Out of Office. 25 years of VP Bank Art Foundation

The exhibitions open officially on Thursday, 11 November, at 6pm. Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and the Hilti Art Foundation invite visitors to two open days on the weekend of 13 and 14 November.

A series of events held by Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in cooperation with the Liechtensteinische Kunstgesellschaft during the closure will give visitors a glimpse behind the scenes and also provide details of upcoming exhibitions. Every two weeks, curators, art educators and exhibition assistants offer an insight into current preparations.
