"[...] nothing less than a reckoning with the fate of humanity in the context of the current climate crisis"
– Rodney LaTourelle, berlinartlink.com

US-American artist and composer Ari Benjamin Meyers's intimate yet intense performance Forecast (LX23) considers codes of power and control. Taking the phenomenon of weather as a starting point, the work investigates predictability (or lack thereof) and the insatiable human need of prognoses, progress and domination over our planet. One recent historical reference point is the suicide of New York lawyer David Buckel in 2018 in protest against the use of fossil fuels.

The performer will interact with the audience and reflect on the climate crisis and the increasingly critical and irrational relationship of human beings to nature and their future on this planet. Meyers' work is also intended to explore the structures and processes of music by examining the performative and social aspects of making music and to view them within the context of the spaces and approaches of the visual arts.

In his recent works, Meyers focuses on the public and societal domain, devising large-scale community rituals and investing spaces with new layers of meaning. He already demonstrated this at the first showing of the performance Forecast (LX23) in July 2023 in the former plenary chamber of the European Parliament in Luxembourg. The performance is being specially adapted for the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein venue.

Forecast (LX23) was conceived by Ari Benjamin Meyers and co-produced by Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean; Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and Arta Sperto, Geneva.
